Coffee and the room
Most cafes design the cup and then find a room for it. Sun Cafe started the other way round: with a long south window, and the question of what would be worth drinking beside it.

The hall came first
Sun Cafe is a portfolio project: a cafe brand that exists only on this site. The brief was to make a coffee place feel special without claiming it is, by paying attention to the hours you would spend there.
So the hall came first. Tables were placed by where the light lands at ten in the morning, the lounge went where the last sun reaches, and the menu was written around the clock.
Four things we keep coming back to

Light, not glare
One generous wall of glass, sheer linen where it is needed and pale walls everywhere else. A place designed around the changing day rather than against it.

Room to linger
Sixty-odd seats, spread wide. Deep sofas in the west corner, and nobody clearing your cup while there is still coffee in it.

Details that matter
A thumb rest in every handle, oak worn soft at the edges, spoons heavier than they need to be.

Coffee without the ceremony
Plain words on the menu and questions answered gladly. You can order the House Cup without a glossary.
From bean to cup
Not a manifesto, just the order things happen in behind the north counter.

The bean
Roasted for the moment it will be drunk in, not for the shelf.

The shot
Pulled to order, watched until the stream turns pale, then stopped.

The pour
Slow-bar coffee is poured where you can see it, and nobody hurries it.

The cup
Served in stoneware made thick enough to keep it warm into the second chapter.
Unwritten rules
The menu shortens at four.
The afternoon list is slower and a little sweeter, written for the warmer light.
Seats face the window, not the door.
Every table was placed by where its light lands at ten in the morning.
There is one clock, and it is on the wall.
No screens behind the counter. The light usually tells you the time anyway.
The lamps come on one table at a time.
Starting with the long tables, finishing at the window bar.
